The Amazing Kona Coast!

The weather in January has been absolutely amazing, warm, breezy, and perfect for wanting an iced Kona Coffee! A Local fruit Smoothie would hit the spot about now too!

Heartily Recommed!

The “Bumpy Kaffir Lime”

Winter time is citrus season on the Big Island, Hawaii.  This “bumpy skinned” kaffir lime is mostly used for zest. When I ask people to scratch and smell it, they are taken aback by it’s sweet, but powerful aroma. There has been a vodka made with this unique smelling, and tasting lime. Citrus peels are said to be good at fighting skin cancer.

Yellow Dragon Fruit

Ouch, cactus nettles hurt!

These are yellow dragon fruit. They are easily cut in half and scooped out with a spoon. It tastes like a melon and kiwi combined. South Kona Fruit Stand is planting more everyday in order to keep up with the demand for this super delicious fruit. It is used in their popular “DragonFruit-Mango” smoothie.

Pullman visited the stand for part of a documentary he’s filming The Fruit Hunters with Ken Love, a documentary about fruit and the lengths people go to to seek out unique and exotic fruit.

Where better to go than here, especially if you’re on the Big Island?  We can’t think of a better place, but maybe we’re biased…
